WELCOME

SONGS
Give thanks to the Lord our God and King
his love endures forever.
For He is good, he is above all things:
his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.

With a mighty hand and an outstretched arm:
his love endures forever.
For the life that’s been reborn:
his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.

Forever God is faithful; forever God is strong.
Forever God is with us, forever. (repeat)
Forever.

From the rising to the setting sun:
his love endures forever.
By the grace of God, we will carry on:
his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.

Bless the Lord, O my soul O my soul,
Worship his holy name.
Sing like never before, O my soul.
I’ll worship your holy name.

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning,
It’s time to sing your song again.
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me,
Let me be singing when the evening comes.

You’re rich in love and you’re slow to anger,
Your name is great and your heart is kind.
For all your goodness I will keep on singing,
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore.

PRAYERS

Our children and young people go out to their groups

SONG
Everyone needs compassion
love that’s never failing: let mercy fall on me.
Everyone needs forgiveness,
the kindness of a Saviour, the hope of nations.

Saviour, he can move the mountains.
My God is mighty to save, he is mighty to save.
Forever – author of salvation.
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.

So take me as you find me, all my fears and failures:
fill my life again.
I give my life to follow everything I believe in;
now I surrender.

Shine your light and let the whole world see.
We’re singing for the glory of the risen King!

You are my God, You are my Saviour
Eternal One, the Great I Am.

BIBLE READING: Jonah 2
1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said:

‘In my distress I called to the Lord,
and he answered me.
From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help,
and you listened to my cry.
3 You hurled me into the depths,
into the very heart of the seas,
and the currents swirled about me;
all your waves and breakers
swept over me.
4 I said, “I have been banished
from your sight;
yet I will look again
towards your holy temple.”
5 The engulfing waters threatened me,
the deep surrounded me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.
6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down;
the earth beneath barred me in for ever.
But you, Lord my God,
brought my life up from the pit.

7 ‘When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered you, Lord,
and my prayer rose to you,
to your holy temple.

8 ‘Those who cling to worthless idols
turn away from God’s love for them.
9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise,
will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will make good.
I will say, “Salvation comes from the Lord.”’

10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

BIBLE TALK

SONG
Hallelujah! All I have is Christ
Hallelujah! Jesus is my life.

I once was lost in darkest night
yet thought I knew the way.
The sin that promised joy and life
had led me to the grave.
I had no hope that You would own
a rebel to Your will,
and if You had not loved me first,
I would refuse You still.

But as I ran my hell-bound race,
indifferent to the cost,
You looked upon my helpless state
and led me to the cross.
And I beheld God’s love displayed;
You suffered in my place.
You bore the wrath reserved for me
now all I know is grace!

Hallelujah…

Now Lord I would be Yours alone
and live so all might see
the strength to follow Your commands
could never come from me.
O Father use my ransomed life
in any way You choose,
and let my song forever be my only boast is You!

CONFESSION

As we come to the Lord’s table we confess our great need of the death of Jesus which this bread and wine signify.

Heavenly Father, we praise you for adopting us as your children
and making us heirs of eternal life in your Son Jesus Christ,
who has freed us from our sins by his blood.
We know that we still fail to love you with all our heart,
We know that we often disobey what you tell us to do.
We know that we still fail to serve you as we ought.
We know we need the death of Jesus for us.

Thank you that in him you pardon our offences
and make us clean. May we continue
as members of Christ,
in whom alone is salvation. Amen.

SONG
Come and see, come and see,
come and see the King of love;
see the purple robe and crown of thorns he wears.
Soldiers mock, rulers sneer,
as he lifts the cruel cross;
lone and friendless now, he climbs towards the hill.

We worship at your feet,
where wrath and mercy meet,
and a guilty world is washed
by love’s pure stream.
For us he was made sin – oh help me take it in.
Deep wounds of love cry out ‘Father forgive.’
I worship, I worship the Lamb who was slain.

Come and weep, come and mourn
for your sin that pierced him there;
so much deeper than the wounds of thorn and nail.
All our pride, all our greed,
all our fallenness and shame;
and the Lord has laid the punishment on him.

Man of heaven, born to earth
to restore us to your heaven,
here we bow in awe beneath your searching eyes.
From your tears comes our joy,
from your death our life shall spring.
By your resurrection power we shall rise.

THE LORD’S SUPPER
The Lord Jesus told us to eat and drink this supper to proclaim his death until he comes again.
Heavenly Father, it is our privilege to remind one another that you gave your only Son to die on the cross for our redemption.
By his death, as the one perfect sacrifice, Jesus Christ has offered all that was needed to take away the sins of the world. By rising to life, he has assured us of our resurrection to eternal life. By ascending to your right hand in heaven, he has poured out your promised Holy Spirit, equipping us to serve you.
How wonderful you are, our God and Saviour! How rich in mercy! How great the love with which you loved us! You have blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing!

Therefore with your whole creation,
and with all your people since time began,
and with all the thousands upon thousands gathered now around your heavenly throne,
we honour and glorify you, saying together:
To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb,
be blessing and honour and glory and might
for ever and ever. Amen.

On the night he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples,
saying, ‘This is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’
Father we eat in remembrance of Jesus.

In the same way he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’
Father we eat in remembrance of Jesus.

Father of all, we give you thanks and praise that when we were still far off you met us in your Son and brought us home. Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory. May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world.
Keep us in this hope that we have grasped;
so we and all your children shall be free,
and the whole earth live to praise your name.

SONG
Awake, Awake, O Zion
and clothe yourself with strength.
Shake off your dust
and fix your eyes on him.
For you have been redeemed by
the precious blood of Jesus,
and now you sit enthroned with him.

Our God reigns, he is King of all the earth.
Our God reigns, and he’s seated on the throne.
Lift your voice, and sing a song of praise.
Our God reigns, the awesome Lord most high.

How beautiful the feet are
of those who bring good news,
for they proclaim the peace
that comes from God.
Rise up you holy nation,
proclaim the great salvation,
and say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Emmanuel, Emmanuel, our God is with us now.

The watchmen lift their voices,
and raise a shout of joy,
for he will come again.
Then every eye will see the
salvation of our God,
for he has redeemed Jerusalem.

SONG

Jesus is Lord – the cry that echoes through creation;
resplendent power, eternal Word, our Rock.
The Son of God, the King whose glory fills the heavens,
yet bids us come to taste this living Bread.

Jesus is Lord – whose voice sustains the stars and planets,
yet in His wisdom laid aside His crown.
Jesus the Man, who washed our feet, who bore our suffering
became a curse to bring salvation’s plan.

Jesus is Lord – the tomb is gloriously empty!
Not even death could crush this King of love!
The price is paid, the chains are loosed, and we’re forgiven,
and we can run into the arms of God.

‘Jesus is Lord’ – a shout of joy, a cry of anguish,
as He returns, and every knee bows low.
Then every eye and every heart will see His glory,
the Judge of all will take His children home.

WELCOME  by Rich Adam

SONG

Come on, come in, everybody, there is a God who is worthy
Of all our praise – he alone is Lord.
Come on and join with creation, let everything shout to praise him:
Glory to Christ – he’s the one who made us.

Lift up your voices to heaven’s king. Bow down before his throne.
Our perfect Saviour died for our sin.
Hallelujah! Praise to Jesus Christ the king.

Come on, come in, all you weary, come on and find rest with Jesus,
He is the one who can heal your soul.
Come on and join with the angels praising the Lamb who was faithful:
Giving his life – he’s the one who saved us.

Come on, you saints, keep believing; gather to hear the Lord speaking:
humble your hearts, tremble at his voice.
Come in with joy for the future; he will renew heaven and earth,
Jesus is Lord – he’s the one who’ll raise us.

WHICH IS BETTER?

SONG

What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh how strange and divine, I can sing: all is mine!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Saviour He will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, His power is displayed

To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley He will lead
Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave

To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing: I am free!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I, but through Christ in me!

BIBLE READING read by Boulders
Matthew 21: 28-32

28 ‘What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, “Son, go and work today in the vineyard.”

29 ‘“I will not,” he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.

30 ‘Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, “I will, sir,” but he did not go.

31 ‘Which of the two did what his father wanted?’

‘The first,’ they answered.

Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

SONG

I’m going to trust in God I’m going to trust in Jesus
without shame and without fear.
I’m going to fix my eyes on the hope of glory
for his day is drawing near.

How great is the love of God, how steady is his hand
to guide me through this world.
And though I’m weak in him I stand
and you will hear me say today in faith,
“I’m going to trust in God.”

Now when the cares of life seem overwhelming
and my heart is sinking down
I’m going to lift my hands to the One who’ll help me,
to the One who holds my crown.

PRAYERS

May we not just say we follow you
Help us to really believe in Jesus

SONG

To God be the glory, great things He has done.
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
who yielded His life an atonement for sin
and opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord! Let the earth hear His voice.
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice.
Come to the Father through Jesus the Son
Give Him the glory; great things He has done.

Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
to every believer the promise of God.
The vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things He has taught us, great things He has done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son.
But purer and higher and greater will be
our wonder, our worship when Jesus we see.

SONG

You were the Word at the beginning
One with God the Lord most high.
Your hidden glory in creation,
Now revealed in You our Christ.

What a beautiful name it is,
what a beautiful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ, my king.
What a beautiful name it is
Nothing compares to this.
What a beautiful name it is, the name of Jesus

It was for Your sake that You came down
For the sake of Your good name.
Our sin was great Your love was greater
What could separate us now?

What a wonderful name it is…

Death could not hold You,
the veil tore before You.
You silenced the boast of sin and grave.
The heavens are roaring
The praise of Your glory,
for You are raised to life again.

You have no rival
You have no equal
now and forever God You reign
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory.
Yours is the name above all names!

What a powerful name it is,
what a powerful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ, my king.
What a powerful name it is
Nothing can stand against!
What a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus
What a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus
What a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus

SONG

Consider Christ the source of our salvation,
that he should take the penalty for me.
Though he was pure, a lamb without a blemish,
he took my sins and nailed them to the tree.

My Lord and God, you are so rich in mercy,
mere words alone are not sufficient thanks.
So take my life, transform, renew and change me
that I might be a living sacrifice.

Consider Christ, that he could trust his Father
in the garden of Gethsemane.
Though full of dread and fearful of the anguish,
he drank the cup that was reserved for me.

Consider Christ, for death he has defeated,
and he arose, appeared for all to see.
And now he sits at God’s right hand in heaven
where he prepares a resting place for me.

BIBLE READING read by Emma Cornforth
1 Kings 21
Now Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard in Jezreel, beside the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. 2And after this Ahab said to Naboth, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a vegetable garden, because it is near my house, and I will give you a better vineyard for it; or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its value in money.” 3But Naboth said to Ahab, “The LORD forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers.” 4And Ahab went into his house vexed and sullen because of what Naboth the Jezreelite had said to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed and turned away his face and would eat no food.

5But Jezebel his wife came to him and said to him, “Why is your spirit so vexed that you eat no food?” 6And he said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money, or else, if it please you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ And he answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’” 7And Jezebel his wife said to him, “Do you now govern Israel? Arise and eat bread and let your heart be cheerful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”

8So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal, and she sent the letters to the elders and the leaders who lived with Naboth in his city. 9And she wrote in the letters, “Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth at the head of the people. 10And set two worthless men opposite him, and let them bring a charge against him, saying, ‘You have cursed[a] God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.” 11And the men of his city, the elders and the leaders who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them. As it was written in the letters that she had sent to them, 12they proclaimed a fast and set Naboth at the head of the people. 13And the two worthless men came in and sat opposite him. And the worthless men brought a charge against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones. 14Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned; he is dead.”

15As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money, for Naboth is not alive, but dead.” 16And as soon as Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, Ahab arose to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

17Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 18“Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria; behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone to take possession. 19And you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Have you killed and also taken possession?”’ And you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: “In the place where dogs licked up the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick your own blood.”’”

20Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of the LORD. 21Behold, I will bring disaster upon you. I will utterly burn you up, and will cut off from Ahab every male, bond or free, in Israel. 22And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the anger to which you have provoked me, and because you have made Israel to sin. 23And of Jezebel the LORD also said, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel within the walls of Jezreel.’ 24Anyone belonging to Ahab who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and anyone of his who dies in the open country the birds of the heavens shall eat.”

25(There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the LORD like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited. 26He acted very abominably in going after idols, as the Amorites had done, whom the LORD cast out before the people of Israel.)

27And when Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth and went about dejectedly. 28And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29“Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; but in his son’s days I will bring the disaster upon his house.”

SONG

Who else commands all the hosts of heaven?
Who else could make every king bow down?
Who else can whisper and darkness trembles?
Only a Holy God.

What other beauty demands such praises?
What other splendour outshines the sun?
What other majesty rules with justice?
Only a Holy God.

Come and behold Him the One and the Only.
Cry out, sing holy forever a Holy God,
Come and worship the Holy God.

What other glory consumes like fire?
What other power can raise the dead?
What other name remains undefeated?
Only a Holy God.

Come and behold…

Who else could rescue me from my failing?
Who else would offer His only Son?
Who else invites me to call Him Father?
Only a Holy God.
Only my Holy God!

CONFESSION
As we come before our holy Lord God, let us confess our sins:

Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
you made all things,
and you call everyone to account.
We admit that we have sinned against you,
in what we have thought, and said and done,
and we deserve your judgement.
We turn from our sins
and are truly sorry for them.
Have mercy on us, merciful Father.
For the sake of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
forgive us all that is past.
Enable us to serve and please you,
to your honour and glory,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let all who confess their sins and trust in Christ
hear these comforting words from the Lord:
“though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow.”

Bread and wine is distributed

Come and see, come and see,
come and see the King of love;
see the purple robe and crown of thorns he wears.
Soldiers mock, rulers sneer,
as he lifts the cruel cross;
lone and friendless now, he climbs towards the hill.

We worship at your feet,
where wrath and mercy meet,
and a guilty world is washed by love’s pure stream.
For us he was made sin – oh help me take it in.
Deep wounds of love cry out ‘Father forgive.’
I worship, I worship the Lamb who was slain.

Come and weep, come and mourn
for your sin that pierced him there;
so much deeper than the wounds of thorn and nail.
All our pride, all our greed,
all our fallenness and shame;

Man of heaven, born to earth
to restore us to your heaven,
here we bow in awe beneath your searching eyes.
From your tears comes our joy,
from your death our life shall spring.
By your resurrection power we shall rise.

RECEIVING THE LORD’S SUPPER

Heavenly Father, we thank you because you gave
your only Son to die on the cross for our redemption.
By his death, he has offered once and for, the one
true sacrifice for sin, reconciling us to you and
satisfying your just demands.

Thank you for giving Jesus for us

On the night before he died, Jesus took bread;
and when he had given you thanks, he broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying,
‘Take, and eat. This is my body given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.’

Thank you that Jesus’ body was broken for us

After the meal, he took the cup, and again giving
you thanks he gave it to his disciples, saying,
‘Drink from this, all of you. This is my blood of the
new covenant which is shed for you and for many for
the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you
drink it, in remembrance of me.’

Thank you that Jesus blood was shed for us

Therefore Father,
we thank you for these gifts of bread and wine,
and pray that we, who eat and drink them,
believing our Saviour’s word, may share in his
body and blood. Amen.

SONG

Yes, finished! The Messiah dies
cut off for sins, but not his own.
Completed is the sacrifice,
the great redeeming work is done.
Yes, finished! All the debt is paid,
justice divine is satisfied,
the grand and full atonement made;
God for a guilty world has died!

The temple curtain is torn down,
the living way to heaven is seen.
Through Christ the middle wall has gone,
and all who will may enter in.
The ancient shadows are fulfilled,
the Scripture prophecies prove true,
the sinless Lamb of God is killed,
the promised covenant made new.

The reign of sin and death is done,
and all may live, from sin set free.
Satan and his pretended throne,
are swallowed up in victory.
Saved from the curse of God I am;
my Saviour hangs upon a tree!
See there the meek and silent Lamb;
his final breath he breathes for me.

In Christ accepted and brought near,
and clothed in righteousness divine,
I see the path to life made clear,
and all your merits, Lord, are mine.
Death, hell and sin are now subdued,
all grace is now to sinners given,
and so we plead the atoning blood,
and claim the title deeds of heaven.

WELCOME

SONG

Come and join the celebration, it’s a very special day!
Come and share our jubilation: there’s a new King born today!

See the shepherds hurry down to Bethlehem;
Gaze in wonder at the Son of God who lay before them.

Wise men journey, led to worship by a star;
kneel in homage, bringing precious gifts from lands afar, so

‘God is with us’ – round the world the message bring;
he is with us: ‘Welcome!’ all the bells on earth are ringing.

BIBLE READING read by Emily Robertson

Matthew 2:1-12

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2  and asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.’ 3  When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4  When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5  ‘In Bethlehem in Judea,’ they replied, ‘for this is what the prophet has written:

6  ‘“But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.”’

7  Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8  He sent them to Bethlehem and said, ‘Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.’ 9  After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10  When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11  On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12  And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

BIBLE TALK part 1                                    from Paul Jenkins

    Look for King Jesus…

SONG

Joy Has dawned upon the world, promised from creation.
God’s salvation now unfurled, hope for every nation.
Not with fanfares from above, not with scenes of glory,
but a humble gift of love – Jesus born of Mary.

Sounds of wonder fill the sky with the songs of angels
as the mighty Prince of Life shelters in a stable.
Hands that set each star in place, shaped the earth in darkness,
cling now to a mother’s breast, vulnerable and helpless.

Shepherds bow before the Lamb, gazing at the glory.
Gifts of men from distant lands prophesy the story.
Gold – a King is born today, Incense – God is with us,
Myrrh – His death will make a way and by His blood He’ll win us.

Son of Adam, Son of heaven, given as a ransom.
Reconciling God and man, Christ our mighty champion!
What a Saviour! What a Friend! What a glorious mystery!
Once a babe in Bethlehem, now the Lord of history.

BIBLE TALK part 2

     …and worship him

SONG

All creatures of our God and King, come to his cradle now and sing.
O praise Him, Hallelujah!
Thou angel host with golden beam, Thou Christmas star with silver gleam.
O praise Him! O praise Him! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Our heav’nly king with royal crown with grace and mercy has come down
O praise Him, Hallelujah!
Praise praise the one come to redeem, not stopped by Herod’s evil scheme
O praise Him! O praise Him! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

All wayward souls who art condemned, look to the star in Bethlehem
O praise Him, Hallelujah!
Come all ye shepherds come wise men Christ born that ye be born again
O praise Him! O praise Him! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

We here the church with joyful cheer,
welcome the king who has come near
O praise Him, Hallelujah!
Bring gifts of incense gifts of gold, see all God’s promises unfold.
O praise Him! O praise Him! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

PRAYERS
During the prayers please join in with the words in bold if you are able
‘Jesus help us look for you…Help us worship you as King.

SONG

As with gladness, men of old did the guiding star behold
As with joy they hailed its light leading onward, beaming bright
So, most glorious Lord, may we evermore be led to Thee.

As with joyful steps they sped to that lowly manger bed
There to bend the knee before Him Whom Heaven and earth adore;
So may we with willing feet ever seek Thy mercy seat.

As they offered gifts most rare at that manger rude and bare;
So may we with holy joy, pure and free from sin’s alloy,
All our costliest treasures bring, Christ, to Thee, our heavenly King.

Holy Jesus, every day keep us in the narrow way;
And, when earthly things are past, bring our ransomed souls at last
Where they need no star to guide, where no clouds Thy glory hide.

In the heavenly country bright, need they no created light;
Thou its light, its joy, its crown, thou its sun which goes not down;
There forever may we sing alleluias to our King!

SONG

Jesus is the King, ruler over everything
Jesus is the one, promised one the Son of God Heart
Jesus is the Lord, he’s the one you can’t ignore
Jesus, Jesus, he is the King. He is the King

He commanded the fisherman
Hey come follow me, and they did and they did, and they did because…

Jesus is the King….

He commanded the evil ones
Hey come out of him, and they did and they did, and they did because…

Jesus is the King….

He commanded the wind and waves
Hey be still be still, and they did and they did, and they did because…

Jesus is the King…

He promised that three days after death
He’d rise again, and He did and He did and He did because…

Jesus is the King…

BITESIZE

Getting ready for Christmas!

Heart THANKFUL?

Psalm 116:1-8 from the International Children’s Bible

I love the Lord because he listens to my prayers for help.
He paid attention to me.

So I will call to him for help as long as I live.

The ropes of death bound me.
The fear of death took hold of me.

I was troubled and sad.

Then I called out the name of the Lord.
I said, “Please, Lord, save me!”

The Lord is kind and does what is right.
Our God is merciful.

The Lord watches over the foolish.
When I was helpless, he saved me.

I said to myself, “Relax,
because the Lord takes care of you.”
Heart
Lord, you have saved me from death.
You have stopped my eyes from crying.
You have kept me from being defeated.

SONG with instruments!

Give thanks to the Lord our God and King his love endures forever.
For He is good, he is above all things: his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.

With a mighty hand and an outstretched arm: his love endures forever.
For the life that’s been reborn: his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.

Forever God is faithful; forever God is strong.
Forever God is with us, forever. (repeat) Forever.

From the rising to the setting sun: his love endures forever.
By the grace of God, we will carry on: his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.

BIBLE READING

Luke 7:36-50  Heart read by Lydia Panter

36 One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and took his place at the table. 37 And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, 38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” 40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.”

41 “A certain money-lender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.” 44 Then turning towards the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” 49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?” 50 And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Jesus forgives sins…

Pebbles: Who loved Jesus the most, Simon or the woman? How do you know?
Rocks: Why did the woman love Jesus so much?
Boulders: Do you think you need to be forgiven?
Everyone else: What can you do this week to increase your love for Jesus?

so we should love him lots

SONG
Heart
Thank you for saving me what can I say?
You are my everything. I will sing your praise.
You shed your blood for me; what a sacrifice!
You took my sin and shame, a sinner called by name.

Great is the Lord. Great is the Lord,
for we know your truth has set us free;
you’ve set your grace on me.

Mercy and grace are mine, forgiven is my sin.
Jesus my only hope, the Saviour of the world.
‘Great is the Lord’ we cry, ‘full of grace and truth’.
Your Word has let me see – thank you for saving me.
