Wouldn’t it be great if we could sit down with our non-Christian friends, family, colleagues and neighbours and read the Bible with them? Forget how scary it sounds for a minute! If it happened, it would be great, wouldn’t it?
Our new Books Of The Term are designed to make it a lot easier to read the Bible with our friends one-to-one. Those books are Uncover and The Word One-To-One.
The Word One-To-One is a brand new resource looking through John’s gospel. Uncover goes through Luke’s gospel and was produced by UCCF a couple of years ago. They say these have led to more conversions in the last few years than they’d seen for decades. These kinds of things work.
But how do they work? Here’s a video we watched in church last Sunday about The Word One-To-One. As you watch it, do keep an open mind about whether this something you might be able to do.
The same goes for both books. The text of the Bible is printed in the book so the booklet is all you need with you. In fact, it’s so self-contained that, if the worst came to the worst, you could give the booklet to a friend and they could do it themselves! But you doing it with them will really help.
Here’s Becky Pippert, who wrote the Uncover studies, explaining why she thinks reading the Bible with someone one-to-one is so great.
We’re promoting these two books with A Passion For Life in mind. As you’re hopefully aware, A Passion For Life is the national mission we’re part of here in Nottingham next year. It’s a great opportunity to bring our friends to hear the gospel clearly explained. But we don’t want to simply invite people to stuff where they’ll hear other people talk; we want to talk with them ourselves, hear what they think and say what we believe. These 2 books are a great way to encourage that. Which is why we’ve bought tons of them!
There are 150 sets of these notes. We went for that many cos we’d love it if everybody bought a couple of copies; for yourself and for your friends. Why not be brave and buy a couple of copies? And then for a week or so use them for your own times reading the Bible. Get a feel for them and how simple it is. Maybe meet up with another Christian and encourage each other using these notes. And when you’ve got the hang of it, ask a non-Christian friend – you’ve got a spare copy lying around so you might as well use it!
Uncover would normally cost around £3, but at Emmanuel you can get them for just £2! Similarly, The Word One-To-One is usually £4 for a set, but you can get them from Emmanuel for just £3!
Who could you pray for? Who could you ask to read with you? Let’s make the most of this great opportunity to tell people about Jesus.
