SONG

The greatest day in history
death is beaten, you have rescued me.
Sing it out, Jesus is alive!
The empty cross, the empty grave
life eternal, you have won the day.
Shout it out, Jesus is alive! He’s alive!

Oh happy day, happy day,
you washed my sin away.
Oh happy day, happy day,
I’ll never be the same –
forever I am changed.

When I stand, in that place,
free at last, meeting face to face.
I am yours, Jesus you are mine.
Endless joy, perfect peace,
earthly pain finally will cease.
Celebrate, Jesus is alive! He’s alive!

Oh what a glorious day,
what a glorious way
that You have saved me.
Oh what a glorious day,
what a glorious name –
you’re Lord and Saviour.

WELCOME and ACCLAMATION

Christ is risen!
All: He is risen indeed. Hallelujah!

SONG

How can it be, the one who died,
has borne our sin through sacrifice
to conquer every sting of death?
Sing, sing hallelujah.

For joy awakes as dawning light
when Christ’s disciples lift their eyes.
Alive He stands, their Friend and King;
Christ, Christ He is risen.

Christ is risen, He is risen indeed!
Oh, sing hallelujah!
Join the chorus, sing with the redeemed;
Christ is risen, He is risen indeed.

Where doubt and darkness once had been,
they saw Him and their hearts believed.
But blessed are those who have not seen,
yet sing hallelujah.

Once bound by fear now bold in faith,
they preached the truth and power of grace.
And pouring out their lives they gained
life, life everlasting.

Christ is risen…

The power that raised Him from the grave
now works in us to powerfully save.
He frees our hearts to live His grace;
Go tell of His goodness.

Christ is risen…

He’s alive, He’s alive!
Heaven’s gates are opened wide.
He’s alive, He’s alive!
Now in heaven glorified.

BIBLE READING

Matthew 28:1-10

Now after the Sabbath, towards the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshipped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

SONGS

Who has held the oceans in his hand?
Who has numbered every grain of sand?
Kings and nations tremble at his voice;
all creation rises to rejoice:

Behold our God! Seated on his throne,
come let us adore him.
Behold our King! Nothing can compare:
come let us adore Him!

Who has given counsel to the Lord?
Who can question any of his words?
Who can teach the one who knows all things?
Who can fathom all his wondrous deeds?

Who has felt the nails upon his hands
bearing all the guilt of sinful man?
God eternal, humbled to the grave;
Jesus, Saviour, risen now to reign!

MEN: You will reign forever!
WOMEN: Let your glory fill the earth! (repeat)

Man of sorrows, Lamb of God,
by His own betrayed.
The sin of man and wrath of God
has been on Jesus laid.

Silent as He stood accused,
beaten, mocked, and scorned.
Bowing to the Father’s will,
He took a crown of thorns.

Oh, that rugged cross, my salvation,
where Your love poured out over me.
Now my soul cries out, “Hallelujah!
Praise and honour unto Thee.”

Sent of heaven, God’s own Son,
to purchase and redeem,
and reconcile the very ones
who nailed Him to that tree.

Oh, that rugged cross…

Now my debt is paid, it is paid in full
by the precious blood that my Jesus spilled.
Now the curse of sin has no hold on me.
Whom the Son sets free, oh is free indeed.

See the stone is rolled away,
behold the empty tomb.
Hallelujah, God be praised!
He’s risen from the grave!

BIBLE READING

Romans 8:31-39 [from the New International Version]

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a]

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

BIBLE TALK

SONG

When I stand accused by my regrets
And the devil roars his empty threats,
I will preach the gospel to myself:
That I am not a soul condemned;
For Jesus Christ is my defence.

My sin is nailed to the cross!
My soul is healed by the scars!
The weight of guilt I bear no more!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord!

When my doubt and shame hang over me,
Like the arrows of the enemy.
I will run again to Calvary,
That rugged hill of hell’s defeat;
My fortress and my victory.

My sin is nailed to the cross!
My soul is healed by the scars!
The weight of guilt I bear no more!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord!

My sin is nailed to the cross!
My soul is healed by the scars!
Now I’m alive forevermore!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord!

It is finished, sin is vanquished!
Hallelujah, praise the Lord!
All the glory, all the honour
To my Saviour, Christ the Lord!

It is finished, sin is vanquished!
Hallelujah, praise the Lord!
All the glory, all the honour
To my Saviour, Christ the Lord!

When I stand before the throne at last,
His blood will plead my innocence.
I will worship Him with holy hands
And raise the song that never ends,
Of Jesus Christ, my righteousness.

My sin is nailed to the cross!
My soul is healed by the scars!
The weight of guilt I bear no more!
Praise the Lord, oh praise the Lord!

My sin is nailed to the cross!
My soul is healed by the scars!
Now I’m alive forevermore!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord!
Oh praise the Lord, praise the Lord!

PRAYERS

SONG

Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son.
Endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
kept the folded grave clothes where thy body lay.

Thine be the glory,
risen, conquering Son.
Endless is the victory
thou o’er death hast won.

Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb;
lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom.
Let the church with gladness hymns of triumph sing,
for her Lord now liveth; death hath lost its sting.

No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of Life;
life is nought without thee: aid us in our strife.
Make us more than conquerors
through thy deathless love;
bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above.

WELCOME

SONG

I cast my mind to Calvary
Where Jesus bled and died for me.
I see His wounds, His hands, His feet.
My Saviour on that cursed tree

His body bound and drenched in tears
They laid Him down in Joseph’s tomb.
The entrance sealed by heavy stone
Messiah still and all alone

O praise the name of the Lord our God
O praise His name forever more
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord, oh Lord our God

Then on the third at break of dawn,
The Son of heaven rose again.
O trampled death where is your sting?
The angels roar for Christ the King

O praise the name of the Lord our God…

He shall return in robes of white,
The blazing Son shall pierce the night.
And I will rise among the saints,
My gaze transfixed on Jesus’ face

O praise the name of the Lord our God…

BIBLE READING

Matthew 27:45-54

45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.[c] 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.

51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

PRAYERS              led by YPF

SONG

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea:
a great High Priest, whose name is Love,
who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on his hands,
my name is written on his heart;
I know that while in heaven he stands
no tongue can bid me thence depart,
no tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair
and tells me of the guilt within,
upward I look and see him there
who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Saviour died,
my sinful soul is counted free;
for God, the Just, is satisfied
to look on him and pardon me,
to look on him and pardon me.

Behold him there, the risen Lamb;
my perfect, spotless righteousness,
the great unchangeable I AM,
the King of glory and of grace!
One with himself, I cannot die;
my soul is purchased with his blood;
my life is hid with Christ on high,
with Christ, my Saviour and my God,
with Christ, my Saviour and my God.

BIBLE TALK

SONGS

Now why this fear and unbelief?
Has not the Father put to grief
his spotless Son for us?
And will the righteous Judge of men
condemn me for that debt of sin
now cancelled at the cross?

Jesus, all my trust is in your blood.
Jesus, you’ve rescued us
through your great love!

Complete atonement you have made,
and by your death have fully paid
the debt your people owed.
No wrath remains for us to face.
We’re sheltered by your saving grace
and sprinkled with your blood.

Jesus, all my trust…

How sweet the sound of saving grace.
How sweet the sound of saving grace.
Christ died for me!

Be still, my soul, and know this peace;
the merits of your Great High Priest
have bought your liberty.
Rely then on his precious blood,
don’t fear your banishment from God
since Jesus sets you free.

Jesus, all my trust…

MEN: Jesus, all my trust…
WOMEN: How sweet the sound…

SONG

You’re the word of God the Father from before the world began;
every star and every planet has been fashioned by Your hand.

All creation holds together by the power of Your voice:
let the skies declare Your glory, let the land and seas rejoice!

You’re the Author of creation, you’re the Lord of every man;
and Your cry of love rings out across the lands.

Yet You left the gaze of angels, came to seek and save the lost,
and exchanged the joy of heaven for the anguish of a cross.

With a prayer You fed the hungry, with a word You stilled the sea;
yet how silently You suffered that the guilty may go free.

With a shout You rose victorious, wresting victory from the grave,
and ascended into heaven leading captives in Your wake.

Now You stand before the Father interceding for Your own.
From each tribe and tongue and nation you are leading sinners home.

THANKSGIVING
for Elias & Jesse Walker

To the parents:
Do you acknowledge that Elias and Jesse are gifts of God’s love and grace to you, and do you wish to give thanks to God and ask for their blessing?

Nathan & Delphine: We do.

All: God our creator, we thank you for the precious gift of family life,
and for giving to Nathan and Delphine, the gift of Elias and Jesse.
As we pray for them we thank you that we’re known to you by name
and loved by you from all eternity.
We thank you for Jesus Christ, who died and rose again
to bring us eternal life. Amen.

As Jesus took children in his arms and blessed them, so we now ask God’s blessing on Elias and Jesse.
Heavenly Father, we praise you for the gift of these children; surround them with your blessing, that they may know your love, be protected from evil, and know your goodness all of their days. May they learn to love all that is true, grow in wisdom and strength, and above all, in due time, come to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ. In his name we pray. Amen.

It says in Deuteronomy: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

To the parents:
Do you trust in God’s promises in his Word, made to you and all who believe?

Nathan & Delphine: We do.

To the parents:
Will you live out the gospel in your home by bringing up Elias and Jesse in the training and instruction of the Lord, disciplining them and showing them grace, praying for them and teaching them to pray, and modeling for them a life lived for others in service of God and the gospel?

Nathan & Delphine: With the help of God, we will.

To the godparents:
Will you partner with Nathan and Delphine in their role as parents, encouraging them, holding them accountable, confronting their sin and praying for them? And will you commit to pray for Elias and Jesse, that he will grow to love Jesus and trust in him?

Godparents: With the help of God, we will.

To the supporting friends, family and congregation:
Will you do all that you can to help and support this family?

All: With the help of God, we will.

BLESSING
May God the Father give to Nathan and Delphine the grace to love and care for Elias and Jesse. May God give them wisdom, patience and faith, help them to provide for their needs and, by their example, reveal the love and truth that are in Jesus Christ.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord look kindly on you and give you peace. And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among us and remain with us always. Amen.

SONG

When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast;
When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast.
I could never keep my hold
Through life’s fearful path;
For my love is often cold; He must hold me fast.

He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast;
For my Saviour loves me so, He will hold me fast.

Those He saves are His delight, Christ will hold me fast;
Precious in His holy sight, He will hold me fast.
He’ll not let my soul be lost; His promises shall last;
Bought by Him at such a cost, He will hold me fast.

For my life He bled and died, Christ will hold me fast;
Justice has been satisfied; He will hold me fast.
Raised with Him to endless life, He will hold me fast
‘Till our faith is turned to sight
When He comes at last!

SONG

My worth is not in what I own;
not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love at the cross.
My worth is not in skill or name;
in win or lose, in pride or shame.
But in the blood of Christ that flowed at the cross.

I rejoice in my Redeemer, greatest treasure,
wellspring of my soul.
I will trust in Him, no other;
my soul is satisfied in Him alone.

As summer flowers fade and die;
Fame, youth and beauty hurry by.
But life eternal calls to us at the cross.
I will not boast in wealth or might,
or human wisdom’s fleeting light
But I will boast in knowing Christ at the cross.

Two wonders here that I confess:
My worth and my unworthiness.
My value fixed my ransom paid at the cross.

BIBLE READING    read by Suze Fazekas

Matthew 22:41-23:12

41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, 42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” 43 He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,

     44 “‘The Lord said to my Lord,
     Sit at my right hand,
     until I put your enemies under your feet’?

45 If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” 46 And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.

23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, so practise and observe whatever they tell you—but not what they do. For they preach, but do not practise. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honour at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the market-places and being called rabbi by others. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. 11 The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

SONGS

From heaven you came helpless babe
entered our world, your glory veiled;
not to be served but to serve,
and give Your life that we might live.

This is our God, the Servant King.
He calls us now to follow Him,
to bring our lives as a daily offering
of worship to the Servant King.

There in the garden of tears,
my heavy load he chose to bear.
His heart with sorrow was torn,
‘Yet not My will but Yours,’ he said.

Come see His hands and His feet,
the scars that speak of sacrifice.
Hands that flung stars into space
to cruel nails surrendered.

So let us learn how to serve,
and in our lives enthrone Him;
each other’s needs to prefer,
for it is Christ we’re serving.

Man of sorrows, Lamb of God,
by His own betrayed.
The sin of man and wrath of God
has been on Jesus laid.

Silent as He stood accused,
beaten, mocked, and scorned.
Bowing to the Father’s will,

Now the curse of sin has no hold on me.
Whom the Son sets free, oh is free indeed.

See the stone is rolled away,
behold the empty tomb.
Hallelujah, God be praised!
He’s risen from the grave!

WELCOME  by Ed Bowerman

SONG

Jesus is Lord – the cry that echoes through creation;
resplendent power, eternal Word, our Rock.
The Son of God, the King whose glory fills the heavens,
yet bids us come to taste this living Bread.

Jesus is Lord – whose voice sustains the stars and planets,
yet in His wisdom laid aside His crown.
Jesus the Man, who washed our feet, who bore our suffering
became a curse to bring salvation’s plan.

Jesus is Lord – the tomb is gloriously empty!
Not even death could crush this King of love!
The price is paid, the chains are loosed, and we’re forgiven,
and we can run into the arms of God.

‘Jesus is Lord’ – a shout of joy, a cry of anguish,
as He returns, and every knee bows low.
Then every eye and every heart will see His glory,
the Judge of all will take His children home.

all this world reveres and wars to own;
all I once thought gain, I have counted loss,
spent and worthless now, compared to this.

Knowing you, Jesus, knowing you,
there is no greater thing.
You’re my all, you’re the best,
you’re my joy, my righteousness;
and I love you Lord.

Now my heart’s desire is to know you more,
to be found in you and known as yours;
to possess by faith what I could not earn
all-surpassing gift of righteousness.

Oh to know the power of your risen life,
and to know you in your sufferings;
to become like you in your death, my Lord,
so with you to live and never die!

BIBLE READING read by Debs Hunt

Matthew 22:15-40

15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. 16 And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. 17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. 20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” 21 They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 22 When they heard it, they marvelled. And they left him and went away.

23 The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question, 24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up children for his brother.’ 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother. 26 So too the second and third, down to the seventh. 27 After them all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.”

29 But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 31 And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” 33 And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

SONG

The splendour of the King clothed in majesty;
let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice.
He wraps Himself in light and darkness tries to hide
and trembles at His voice, and trembles at His voice.

How great is our God!
Sing with me – how great is our God!
And all will see how great, how great is our God!

And age to age He stands and time is in His hands;
Beginning and the End, Beginning and the End.
The Godhead, three in one; Father, Spirit, Son.
The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb.

Name above all names! Worthy of all praise!
My heart will sing: how great is our God!

CONFESSION

Most merciful Father, our Creator and Judge,
we acknowledge and confess
that we have sinned against you
in thought, word and deed.
We have not loved you with all our heart;
and we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
We earnestly repent,
and are truly sorry for all our sins.
For your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake forgive us,
and strengthen us to serve and obey you
in lives wholly renewed by your Spirit;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

THE LORD’S SUPPER

Heavenly Father, we thank you because you gave your only Son to die on the cross for our redemption. By his death, he has offered once and for, the one true sacrifice for sin, reconciling us to you and satisfying your just demands.

Thank you for giving Jesus for us

On the night before he died, Jesus took bread; and when he had given you thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take, and eat. This is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’

Thank you that Jesus’ body was broken for us

After the meal, he took the cup, and again giving you thanks he gave it to his disciples, saying,
‘Drink from this, all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’

Thank you that Jesus blood was shed for us

Therefore Father,

we thank you for these gifts of bread and wine, and pray that we, who have eaten and drunk them, believing our Saviour’s word, may be sharers in his body and blood. Amen.

SONG
My worth is not in what I own;
not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love at the cross.
My worth is not in skill or name;
in win or lose, in pride or shame.
But in the blood of Christ that flowed at the cross.

I rejoice in my Redeemer, greatest treasure,
wellspring of my soul.
I will trust in Him, no other;
my soul is satisfied in Him alone.

As summer flowers fade and die;

SONG

Be Thou my vision O Lord of my heart.
Nought be all else to me, save that thou art.
Thou my best thought in the day and the night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word.
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord.
Thou my great Father and I thy true heir.
Thou in me dwelling and I in thy care.

Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight.
Be thou my armour, and be thou my might.
Thou my soul’s shelter and thou my high tower.
Raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not nor all the world’s praise.
Thou my inheritance through all my days.
Thou, and thou only, the first in my heart.
High King of heaven, my treasure thou art!

High King of heaven, when battle is done,
grant heaven’s joys to me, bright heaven’s sun.
Christ of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

SONG

Who else commands all the hosts of heaven
Who else could make every king bow down
Who else can whisper and darkness trembles
Only a Holy God

What other beauty demands such praises
What other splendour outshines the sun
What other majesty rules with justice
Only a Holy God

Come and behold Him the One and the Only
Cry out, sing holy forever a Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God

What other glory consumes like fire
What other power can raise the dead
What other name remains undefeated
Only a Holy God

Come and behold Him…
Who else could rescue me from my failing
Who else would offer His only Son
Who else invites me to call Him Father
Only a Holy God
Only my Holy God!

Come and behold Him…

Come and behold Him the One and the Only
Cry out, sing holy forever a Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God

WELCOME  by Richard Hopkins

SONG

Come people of the risen king who delight to bring him praise;
come all and tune your hearts to sing to the Morning Star of grace.
From the shifting shadows of the earth we will lift our eyes to him,
where steady arms of mercy reach to gather children in.

Rejoice, rejoice! Let every tongue rejoice!
One heart, one voice; O church of Christ, rejoice!

Come, those whose joy is morning sun, and those weeping through the night;
come, those who tell of battles won, and those struggling in the fight.
For his perfect love will never change, and his mercies never cease,
but follow us through all our days with the certain hope of peace.

Come, young and old from every land – men and women of the faith;
come, those with full or empty hands -find the riches of his grace.
Over all the world, his people sing – shore to shore we hear them call
the truth that cries through every age: ‘our God is all in all!

SONGS

Come you weary hearts now to Jesus
Come you anxious soul now and see
There is perfect love and comfort in your tears
Rest here in His wondrous peace.

Come find what this world cannot offer
Come and find your joy here complete.
Taste the living water, never thirst again
Rest here in His wondrous peace.

Oh the goodness, the goodness of Jesus
Satisfied he is all that I need.
May it be, come what may,
That I rest all my days in the goodness of Jesus.

Come and find your hope now in Jesus
He is all He said He would be.
Grace is overflowing from the Saviour’s heart
Rest here in His wondrous peace.

As the heavens are higher than the earth
so his ways are higher than the ways of this world,
and his thoughts run deeper than the mind of man;
Father, break into our darkened hearts.

Come and drink the river of his Word
if you thirst for water that can satisfy;
come and join the banquet at the Master’s feast
where his love and faithfulness provide.

I will trust in you as you speak to me,
I will turn to you as you call my name,
as the rain gives life on this arid ground,
so your Word will bring your children home.

Come and listen to his gentle voice
for the words he speaks to us are Spirit and life;
come and seek your Saviour while he may be found,
sure that Jesus’ words can never lie.

BIBLE READING – Matthew 22:1-14 read by Luke Bowerman

Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”

As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ’, and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then many will fall away[a] and betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

SONG

And can it be that I should gain
an interest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died he for me, who caused His pain;
for me, who him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be
that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

‘Tis mystery all: the Immortal dies:
who can explore his strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
to sound the depths of love divine!
‘Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,
let angel minds inquire no more.
‘Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,
let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above
so free, so infinite his grace;
emptied himself of all but love,
and bled for Adam’s helpless race.
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free,
for, O my God, it found out me!
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free,
for, O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

No condemnation now I dread:
Jesus and all in him is mine!
Alive in him, my living head,
and clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
and claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
and claim the crown, through Christ my own.
