WELCOME by Richard Hopkins
SONG
The splendour of the King clothed in majesty;
let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice.
He wraps Himself in light and darkness tries to hide
and trembles at His voice, and trembles at His voice.
How great is our God!
Sing with me – how great is our God!
And all will see how great, how great is our God!
And age to age He stands and time is in His hands;
Beginning and the End, Beginning and the End.
The Godhead, three in one; Father, Spirit, Son.
The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb.
How great is our God…
Name above all names! You are worthy of our praise!
My heart will sing: how great is our God!
How great is our God…

Getting our thinking straight
SONG
How deep the Father’s love for us how vast beyond all measure,
that he should give his only Son to make a wretch his treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns his face away,
as wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory.
Behold the Man upon the cross, my sin upon his shoulders;
ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished;
his dying breath has brought me life – I know that it is finished.
I will not boast in anything, no gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom;
but I will boast in Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from his reward? I cannot give an answer;
but this I know with all my heart, his wounds have paid my ransom.

PRAYERS led by Richard Elliott
SONG
Who can know the mind of our Creator?
Who can speak of wonders yet unseen?
Who can reach the height of understanding,
to play the notes of wisdom’s melody?
Who has weighed the dust of ev’ry mountain?
Who has walked the mysteries of the deep?
Who has laid the earth on its foundation,
and who conducts the waves upon the sea?
I stand in awe of you, I stand in awe of you.
So glorious and true: I stand in awe, I stand in awe.
You have seen the end from the beginning.
You have been before the world began.
You have reached to me within my darkness,
And in the light of mercy now I see.
BIBLE READING read by Kathrine Calder
1 Corinthians 2:6-16
6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,
“Who has known the mind of the Lord
so as to instruct him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.

SONGS
Holy Spirit, living breath of God
breathe new life into my willing soul.
Bring the presence of the risen Lord
to renew my heart and make me whole.
Cause Your Word to come alive in me.
Give me faith for what I cannot see.
Give me passion for Your purity.
Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me.
Holy Spirit, come abide within.
May Your joy be seen in all I do.
Love enough to cover every sin
in each thought and deed and attitude.
Kindness to the greatest and the least,
gentleness that sows the path of peace.
Turn my striving into works of grace.
Breath of God, show Christ in all I do.
Holy Spirit, from creation’s birth,
giving life to all that God has made,
show Your power once again on earth.
Cause Your church to hunger for Your ways.
Let the fragrance of our prayers arise.
Lead us on the road of sacrifice
that in unity the face of Christ
will be clear for all the world to see.
Be Thou my vision O Lord of my heart.
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art.
Thou my best thought by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word.
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord.
Thou my great Father and I thy true son.
Thou in me dwelling and I with thee one.
Be thou my battle shield, sword for the fight.
Be thou my dignity, thou my delight.
Thou my soul’s shelter, thou my high tower.
Raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
Riches I heed not nor man’s empty praise.
Thou my inheritance now and always.
Thou, and thou only, first in my heart.
High King of heaven, my treasure thou art!
High King of heaven, after victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun.
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
