Psalm 14

To the choirmaster. Of David.

14:1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds,
there is none who does good.
The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.
They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers
who eat up my people as they eat bread
and do not call upon the Lord?
There they are in great terror,
for God is with the generation of the righteous.
You would shame the plans of the poor,
but the Lord is his refuge.
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

Sermon points

  • Confess that you’ve turned away from God
  • Remember that God is with the righteous
  • Rejoice in God’s salvation

CONFESSION

As part of our response to God’s word, let’s confess to Him how we turn away from Him in our lives.

Most merciful Father, our Creator and Judge,
we acknowledge and confess
that we have sinned against you
in thought, word and deed.
We have not loved you with all our heart;
and we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
We earnestly repent,
and are truly sorry for all our sins.
For your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake forgive us,
and strengthen us to serve and obey you
in lives wholly renewed by your Spirit;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

SONGS

In our closing two songs, we rejoice in the salvation that Jesus has won for us.

CLOSING PRAYER

“Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb. Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honour and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen.”
