WELCOME

CAROL

O Come All Ye Faithful
joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, o come ye, to Bethlehem!
Come and behold him, born the king of angels:

O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
Christ the Lord!

God of God, Light of light,
He who abhors not the virgin’s womb;
very God, begotten not created:

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation!
sing, all ye citizens of heaven above,
‘Glory to God in the highest!’

Yes Lord, we greet you, born that happy morning;
Jesus, to you be glory given!
Word of the Father now in flesh appearing:

LOTS TO CELEBRATE ON CHRISTMAS MORNING

BIBLE READING

Luke 2:1-7

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

CAROL

Silent Night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright
round the virgin and her child: holy infant, so gentle and mild,
sleep in heavenly peace; sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight;
glory streams from heaven afar: heavenly hosts sing ‘Alleluia,
Christ the Saviour is born, Christ the Saviour is born.’

Silent night! Holy night! Son of God, love’s pure light:
radiant beams your holy face with the dawn of redeeming grace.
Jesus, Lord, at your birth, Jesus, Lord at your birth.

BIBLE READING Matthew 2:1-12

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he enquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:

“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler
    who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11 And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12 And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.

BIBLE TALK

CAROL

As with gladness, men of old did the guiding star behold,
As with joy they hailed its light leading onward, beaming bright
So, most glorious Lord, may we evermore be led to Thee.

As with joyful steps they sped, Saviour, to thy lowly bed
There to bend the knee before Him Whom Heaven and earth adore;
So may we with willing feet ever seek Thy mercy seat.

As they offered gifts most rare at that manger rude and bare;
So may we with holy joy, pure and free from sin’s alloy,
All our costliest treasures bring, Christ, to Thee, our heavenly King.

Holy Jesus, every day keep us in the narrow way;
And, when earthly things are past, bring our ransomed souls at last
Where they need no star to guide, where no clouds Thy glory hide.

In the heavenly country bright, need they no created light;
Thou its Light, its Joy, its Crown, Thou its Sun which goes not down;
There forever may we sing alleluias to our King!

PRAYERS

CAROL

Joy to the world the Lord has come:
let earth receive her king!
Let every heart prepare him room
and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth – the Saviour reigns!
Your sweetest songs employ,
while fields and streams, rocks, hills and plains
repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy,
repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
nor thorns infest the ground.
He comes to make his blessings flow
far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found,
far as, far as the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
and makes the nations prove
the glories of his righteousness,
the wonders of his love, the wonders of his love,
the wonders, wonders of his love.
