Anyone in the church family would love to talk to you about their faith and about the impact that following Jesus has had on their life. A good place to start, though, is to talk to a member of our staff team. You can find all their contact details here, and a recent photo of them so you know who to look out for on a Sunday.

When Christians talk about ‘church’ we are talking about a group of people who meet together to worship God. It doesn’t matter what building those people meet in. Some churches do meet in church buildings, but others meet in cafes, houses, schools and warehouses. One of the real benefits of meeting in a school is that it helps us keep in touch with what is happening in our local community. And it gives our services a more relaxed feeling to them.

Yes! While church is primarily a place for Christians, we welcome anyone. And if you’re not sure God exists, what better place to find out about him and make up your mind than at a church. We would love to welcome you.

Yes! We have people come from a variety of faith backgrounds and many with no faith background. At Emmanuel Church we want to welcome anyone who wants to come to find out more about God. If that is you then you are very welcome to join us.

Of course! All the words you will need to follow for the service will be on the screen, including the Bible passage. If you’d like to have a Bible for our service, grab one from on our welcome desk on the way in. If there is anything you don’t understand, a member of our welcome team or church leadership will be happy to help you, or just ask someone sitting near you!

Not at all. At Emmanuel we sing a variety of traditional hymns and more contemporary songs. Singing is a big part of our service as it is one way that we worship God together. But it is absolutely fine to just listen to the music if you would like to, or to read and reflect on the words that will appear on the screen.

We welcome children at Emmanuel church of all ages and stages. We don’t expect children to sit quietly and not make a noise during the service. In our church family we have people of all ages, including young babies who do like to make themselves heard! In our Morning services, we have special age-appropriate groups for children that take place during the service which your child would be welcome to attend. But if there is a bit of noise in the service that is fine with us! If you are uncomfortable, however, you can take your child into the foyer and still listen to the service.

There is no set amount of Sunday s that someone should go to church. In fact, we have no rules about church attendance at all. Christians believe coming to church is important, as it’s a place where we can worship God, encourage other Christians and be helped as we try and follow Jesus. Most Christians will come to church as often as they can. But there is no pressure on you to come at all. Come when you want to and you will be very welcome.

At Emmanuel, we don’t use special names or titles for our leaders. We simply call them by their first name, as we would anyone else. If you’re not sure who our leaders are, check out our ‘Who’s who?’ page or have a look at their pictures on the welcome board as you come into Emmanuel Church on a Sunday.

If you’ve not been to Emmanuel church before, you might want to check out this video (link to what to expect video) which gives you an idea of what happens during a Sunday service. The service leader will also let you know what is going to happen in the service and when, so you know what to do.

That is fine. At Emmanuel, we conduct our services in English, however we have a selection of Chinese bibles available on the desk, and a number of our church members come from different countries around the world. If there is something we can do to make coming to church more accessible for you, do let us know!

The Lord’s Supper is the time in our service when the church family eat bread and drink wine to remember Jesus’ death on the cross. We believe this is something Jesus told his followers to do, and is something only believers should do as part of the service. If you wouldn’t call yourself a Christian, we would encourage you to let the bread and wine pass you by as it is handed out. Please don’t feel any embarrassment about doing so, you won’t be the only one.

No! At Emmanuel we don’t have a time for donations during a Sunday service. We believe that giving to the church is something that church members may choose to do, but we don’t want anyone visiting to feel pressured to give us money. If you would like to find out more about our thoughts about giving money, please contact a member of the leadership team.

During our service we have times of prayer, which are usually led by someone from the front. You are welcome to join in with these times of prayer, by saying ‘amen’ (which means I agree) or by using the words of response which will be on the screen, but there is absolutely no pressure to do so. You are also welcome to just sit and listen to our prayers.
